So, You Want a Pond?

So, You Already Have a Pond?

We trust that your relationship with your pond is not the love/hate relationship so many people have with their water feautres. But if a pond is not installed correctly or does not have proper filtration or other products, we know a pond can be a nightmare. All of the water features we install work with Mother Nature, not against her, but we know not all ponds are created on that basis. If you are currently fighting for control over your water feature, we have some tips that will help you to enjoy your liquid garden to its fullest.
Work with Mother Nature, not against her!
Algae Control

MOTHER NATURE'S PRESCRIPTION FOR ALGAE CONTROL:  Don't underestimate the power of Mother Nature. She has the simplest solution that suggests algae problems are most likely the result of an unbalanced ecosystem. That being the case, the imbalance problem can easily be resolved by creating balance. Balance in a water feature can be attained by following several basic steps which include

  • A good, solid circulation system including pump and connective pipes.
  • A good, solid filtration system including both mechanical (skimmer) and biological (BIOFALLS©) forms of filtration.
  • Aquatic plants.
  • Aquatic animals.
  • Rocks and gravel.
These elements work together to maintain a natural ecosystem without over-filtering or radiating anything in the pond.

Why use artificial methods of pond maintenance when Mother Nature's ways work perfectly?
Pond Cleaning
When many people think of pond maintenance, visions of draining the pond every weekend, power washing the rocks, and "weeding" string algae come to mind. But if your pond is properly installed, the enjoyment you receive from your pond will be many times greater than the work you put into it. Since our water features closely mirror those of Mother Nature's, we recommend cleaning your pond only once a year, in the springtime, just like Mother Nature does. As the snow melts in the mountains and flushes out the rivers and streams, debris is forced downstream, giving these natural waterways a "Spring Cleanout." We have found that this is the best way to maintain a healthy ecosystem and keep in step with Mother Nature.
