Winter is Coming - Prep Your Pond for a Cold Snap

In the Pacific Northwest, we are lucky enough to leave our water features running year-round! Still, there are a few considerations pond owners should take to ensure their pond is running at its best during the winter months.

Automatic Dosing System

If you are one of our install customers, chances are your pond is treated via the Automatic Dosing System. If you have one of these Dosing systems, you’ll want to watch the following video for important instructions on how to prep it before a cold snap to protect the unit from freezing and cracking.

All of our Artisan Pond Care clients have an Automatic Dosing System, and as part of our service to those clients, we will come out and winterize your system for you! Not a member yet? No worries, this is a great time to sign up and start receiving the benefits immediately!

Remove Leaves and Debris

Another important step to prepare your pond for a cold snap, is to make sure any leaves and debris have been removed from the waterfall and stream area. Any buildup of debris along with possible ice formations during a cold snap, can cause the water to divert, resulting in a leak or water loss.

Summary

If you are not a member of our Artisan Pond Care programs but you need any assistance with caring for your pond this winter, we are happy to help! We can give you a quote on a Pond Care plan, or just come out for a single visit too. The important thing is to make sure your pond makes it through the winter months in tip-top shape and will be ready to be enjoyed when spring comes around again.
